Jan 2012.1

Since it’s been awhile, I figured I should probably put something here and maybe revert back to an older theme. My inactivity on this particular website doesn’t necessarily indicate that I haven’t been doing much of anything; more, I’ve been extremely busy with my job, RIFT™, working towards two one network security certificates, and the occasional gig that drags me out of my cave. Many thanks to Sailorgloom and Missguided for allowing me the opportunities to shake the rust off. To add to those two, I must also put a shout out to C-P of DC 949 and Unall{Ø}cated Space – not just for allowing me to provide the tunes for Unall{Ø}cated’s 1 year anniversary party mid-November last year, but for bringing me back for their Shmoocon 2012 after-party Jan 27, 2012. Already a great start to a new year.

Another event to keep in mind for next year. I’d love to attend one of these and one for Anime/Manga.

Putting this here for safe keeping. Pretty interested to see how many of these episodes actually make it to the outlets that I know about (like Crunchyroll, Funimation, Anime Network, Viz, Hulu, and Netflix).
Recap: Dracula’s Ball (07/23/2011)
by I/O Control on Jul.25, 2011, under Events
Over a year had passed since I found myself behind the decks in a club. The dry-spell had been broken Saturday, July 23rd, 2011 thanks to DJ MissGuided and the Dancing Ferret sponsored event, Dracula’s Ball. I packed my backpack with my somewhat new Apple 13” MacBook Pro, an upgraded Native Instruments Traktor Scratch Pro 2, the old Denon headphones that I’ve had forever now, and some 11.7 thousand songs at my finger tips I may have been a little over-prepared for a night where I would only have 2.5 hours or less of playtime. Event Imminent

So I finally broke down and shelled out the cash to upgrade my current virtual DJ software to the latest and greatest version of Native Instruments Traktor Scratch Pro 2. What prompted this upgrade, you ask? Well, a good friend of mine decided to call me out of the blue one day to invite me to this crazy event out in Philadelphia, PA called “Dracula’s Ball” and, of course, I couldn’t say no … it’s been over a year since I’ve last stood behind a DJ booth – I need a bit of release. Thank you, DJ MissGuided, for the opportunity. (continue reading…)

More Tinkering with the Website

Installed a new plug-in for cross-site posting … I know some of the more tech savvy peeps would have something to say about that, but I’m bored.
Hectic Weeks
by I/O Control on May.20, 2011, under Site News
It’s amazing to think how quickly these weeks go by. My days have been spent absorbing quite a bit of information that time has become rather slippery and difficult to grasp … the upside is the work week just disappears. The downside is that the weekend is not nearly long enough that I find myself sometimes not getting to relax the way I’d like to. I need to start scheduling my time accordingly to maximize my efficiency.
Speaking of time … I’ve since moved on from World of Warcraft. I’ve jumped onto the bandwagon of Rift. I’ve had to kill my linux box in order to accomplish this since my four year old Alienware laptop wasn’t powerful enough (stupid dual-core minimum requirements). Even then, I still need to grab a stronger video card and two more GBs of RAM. I hate that my system is still scraping the bottom of the barrel on the requirements even with the upgrades I’m looking to pick up, but oh-well.
Habari is a No Go
by I/O Control on May.18, 2011, under General
In the end, Habari wasn’t quite what I had hoped it would be. It is a blog system still in its infancy and seems to be well on its way, however, the features I thought was a defacto part of the system were not quite there, yet. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it as it matures. That leaves MovableType, however, testing that system will require some finagling on my server since it utilizes CGI to carry out some of its tasks. Not entirely a Bad Thing™, but it does make installation a little more difficult than just dumping the files into a directory and pointing your web browser at it. Which leaves me with WordPress and the one prevailing truth of the moment – It Works®. I may have to look into how one goes about developing a plugins and themes, though the latter would mean that I would also have to somehow manage to find an ounce of artistic ability … something I haven’t the patience for.
